Did you know that a major cause of people losing their jobs is an ‘inability to work with others’? Research shows that in the general public, this happens in 70 to 80 percent of job losses. In the field of interpreting, it is a given that you will work with a variety of people. Interpreters would benefit from having good people skills that coincide with following the code of ethics. The technical skills which interpreters already have are necessary, but may not be as effective without interpersonal skills including appropriate interaction, professional courtesy and empathy. In this webinar, we will review the skills needed to build effective professional relationships, and how to pinpoint and eliminate the habits and tendencies that hold you back. We will also discuss diplomatic tactics to handle every situation by knowing what exactly to say and when.
